"...Reluctantly I admit I can't recall any happy days in Chatham schools except the last day in the school years. Having me as a student at St. Joseph's must have qualified Mrs. Lahey and those stout hearted nuns for canonization. The 1930's was a sad time in world history, more so for Canada, "the land of plenty". In N.B., we witnessed entire families wiped out thru malnutrition. Billy Thompson was either in my class or one earlier. He didn't have to go to war to die - T.B. killed him and all except one in his family."
