Teachers at St. Joseph Preparatory School

Sister Jane Curry (1864 - 1948)

Excerpt from the R.H.S.J necrology:

In her long life, Sister Curry had been a person of great activity and shared with the pioneer sisters all the privations and hardships of those days. Her life, which was spent almost entirely in the schools was energetic and full of ardent zeal for the betterment of her pupils. For well-nigh twenty years of her later life Sister Curry was engaged at St. Joseph's Preparatory School for Boys.

Sister Gladys Rideout (1926-1927)

Mrs. Robert Lahey (Mae Thompson) (1927 - 1931)

Excerpt from letter to Kathleen Richard, Secretary, St. Michael's Museum Association from Pelham Harriman, former student of St. Joseph's School for Boys). Dated April 1, 1981 (50th Anniversary year of the closing of the school).

"On the first day back to school, I remember the stench of some type of fall daisy or ragweed that grew profusely in the schoolyard. Sister Rideout was our first teacher, but she took ill after a few months and Mrs. Lahey took over. She was patient, kind, and understanding. The classmates I can recall most vividly are the four that died in Normandy on D-Day - Ned Rigley, Hugh McCormack, Harold Daley, and Peter Cook."
